Spurs midfielder Tang nominated for Chinese Women’s Footballer of the Year

Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Tang Jiali has been nominated for the Chinese Women’s Footballer of the Year award.

The 26-year-old has been named on a six-player shortlist for the award which includes legendary Chinese midfielder Wang Shuang and Celtic’s Shen Mengyu.

Tang is enjoying her first season in the English professional game after joining Tottenham Hotspur on a season-long loan deal from Shanghai Shengli in the summer. The player has made six appearances for Rehanne Skinner’s side in all competitions so far this season. The midfielder is the first-ever Chinese player to feature in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

On the international stage, Tang featured for China in Asian Women’s Olympic Qualifying, playing in both legs of their 4-3 final victory over South Korea in April. The player remains a key member of China head coach Shui Qingxia’s squad for the upcoming AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022™.

Tang is looking to retain the Chinese Women’s Footballer of the Year award for a second consecutive year. She won the accolade for 2020 following her goalscoring exploits for parent club Shanghai Shengli in the Chinese Women’s Super League. Fellow nominee Wang Shuang won the Chinese Women’s Footballer of the Year award for the previous three years.
