Arsenal have today confirmed the news that defender Leah Williamson has returned to training following a two-month injury lay-off.
The 24-year-old Milton Keynes-born centre-back suffered a severe hamstring injury in Arsenal’s 1-1 North London derby draw at Tottenham Hotspur in November and she has been sidelined ever since.
Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall advised in last week’s press conference that Williamson is expected to return to action by the February international window and the club have today confirmed the player’s return to the training pitch. The Gunners provided the update via a post on their official club Twitter account.

Williamson’s return to training comes on the same day that the player agreed a new long term deal with the club. The defender’s new contract is arguably the biggest and best bit of business which Arsenal will conduct in the January transfer window. Williamson is midway through her second decade with The Gunners and she represents everything that the club are about.
Arsenal have welcomed two of their long term absentees back to the training pitch in recent days. United States international forward Tobin Heath has also stepped up her return to full fitness by resuming training this week. Midfielder Malin Gut is the one player who remains on the sidelines with the player continuing to recover from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury.
