Former Liverpool forward Rinsola Babajide has today been officially announced as a Real Betis player following her departure from the Merseyside club earlier this month.
Babajide had initially spent the first half of the 2021/2022 season on loan at Barclays FA Women’s Super League side Brighton & Hove Albion but her stint with the Sussex club was cut short due to a lack of playing time. After leaving The People’s Pension Stadium, Babajide had her contract with parent club Liverpool terminated by mutual consent and rumours of Spanish club Real Betis becoming her next destination became widely reported.
Real Betis have today confirmed the player’s move to Andalusia and she will now be linking up with former Tottenham Hotspur joint-head coach Juan Carlos Amorós at her new club. Babajide has signed an 18-month deal with Real Betis, a longer arrangement that originally rumoured.
Babajide has previously put in some impressive performances in the red of Liverpool but following the club’s relegation to the second tier, she was looking for pastures new. Although her spell at Brighton & Hove Albion didn’t play out as she would’ve hoped, a move to a different league and a different country could add an extra dimension to her game.
It is no secret that Babajide has her sights set on breaking into the England senior team having featured at various youth levels, however, with Lauren Hemp in scintillating form on the left wing and plenty of competition for places in attack, Babajide finds her pathway to the senior side obstructed. This move could be just what she needs to revitalise both her club and international careers.
