Sunderland defender Herron signs new deal

Sunderland defender Neve Herron has signed a new contract with the club until the end of next season according to reports on The Lady Black Cats’ official website.

The 18-year-old is a key member of Sunderland boss Melanie Reay’s squad with Herron having featured in all of the Wearside club’s 18 matches in all competitions so far this season.

Herron is one of just four Sunderland players to have played in every FA Women’s Championship match this season, Grace McCatty, Louise Griffiths and Emma Kelly being the others. With Herron being one of the most consistent performers in the team, Sunderland have moved quickly to agree new terms with the player.

After signing on again at The Eppleton Colliery Welfare Ground, Herron said “I’m delighted to have signed a contract here.

“I feel like I’ve developed well across the season so far and adapted to Championship level and I’m certain that Sunderland is the right club at this stage of my career.

“My teammates and coaches have helped massively this season, so I’m very grateful to them. I have a great support on and off the pitch here.”

Herron will be hoping to make another positive contribution for The Lady Black Cats when they host Sheffield United on Sunday in the FA Women’s Championship.
