Blackburn Rovers’ FA Women’s Championship fixture against Lewes has been postponed due to a waterlogged pitch at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium.
The North West has been battered by heavy rain during the last 48 hours with some EFL fixtures in the area being called off yesterday and unfortunately, Blackburn Rovers’ home venue of The Sir Tom Finney Stadium in Bamber Bridge has not avoided the adverse weather.
With opponents Lewes having made the long trip north, club officials have worked hard to get the game on but Blackburn Rovers admitted defeat earlier this morning with the pitch failing an inspection. The news was announced via a post on the club’s official Twitter account.

Both clubs will be bitterly disappointed with the postponement with Blackburn Rovers and Lewes looking to return to winning ways following defeats last time out. Gemma Donnelly’s Blackburn Rovers side lost 3-1 at Durham in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup fourth round last weekend while Lewes were defeated in their last FA Women’s Championship fixture at Crystal Palace by the same scoreline. The Rookettes may have moved into the top half of the table with a victory in Lancashire this afternoon.
A new date for the rearranged fixture will be agreed between the two clubs in due course. With neither club in Vitality Women’s FA Cup action, Sunday 27 February looks to be the earliest opportunity to stage the game.
