Manchester City’s next two games season-defining admits Taylor ahead of Chelsea clash

Manchester City head coach Gareth Taylor has admitted that his side’s next two games against Chelsea and Manchester United could define their season.

The Cityzens travel to Kingsmeadow to face the Barclays FA Women’s Super League champions this afternoon before hosting neighbours Manchester United next weekend.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference ahead of the Chelsea game, Taylor admitted that the two matches will define his side’s season.

“I think the next two games will be (season-defining),” Taylor admitted. “We need to make sure that we have given ourselves the best opportunity when we have played both of these games to ensure that we are still in a good position to achieve our objectives.

“It is important to go down to Chelsea and get the right result as that then takes us into the next game. You are going to get to a point in the season where it is about getting out there and getting the points that we need to continue with the journey.”

Manchester City are 10 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal with a game in hand. Despite the huge gap between the two teams, Taylor maintains that his side remain in the title race.

He said “We are (still in the title race), it never stops, we always keep going until the end. It is such an unpredictable title race this season, it’s completely different to what we have seen over the last few years. In football, anything can happen and it is good that we are still in the hunt but we are aware of the fact that we take one game at a time and try to take the maximum points that we can.

“We always make sure that we don’t get ahead of ourselves. We know that our level of performance is really important. It is really important how we dominate all of the phases to give ourselves the best possible chance to get the best result.”

Manchester City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Chelsea kicks-off at 12.30pm.
