Birmingham City have been successful with their appeal to have goalkeeper Emily Ramsey’s red card overturned according to reports on the Blues’ official website.
The 21-year-old was dismissed for allegedly bringing down Leicester City forward Jess Sigsworth in the box in the first half of her side’s 2-1 defeat to The Foxes at St Andrew’s on Sunday.
The Blues had to play the remaining 64 minutes of the match with 10 players and Sigsworth picked herself up to slot away the resulting penalty kick. The two sides were deadlocked at 0-0 when the penalty was awarded and Ramsey was dismissed.
Birmingham City have today confirmed that their appeal against Ramsey’s red card has been successful following the review of video and photographic evidence by The Football Association and the youngster is available for selection for Sunday’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur at St Andrew’s.
While news of a successful appeal is much-welcomed by Birmingham City, it offers little consolation to the Blues. Their fixture against Leicester City was one that was very much a ‘must win’ with The Foxes having been just two points above Darren Carter’s side in the table. As a result of Sunday’s defeat, Birmingham City are now five points adrift with a mountain to climb to retain their top flight status.
The club have put on record their disappointment at Sunday’s decision by the match referee and they have provided feedback to both the Football Association and the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL).
