Arsenal head coach Jonas Eidevall says that he has no interest in which side are currently seen as Barclays FA Women’s Super League title favourites and his vision remains solely on The Gunners winning their matches.
Eidevall’s side top the Barclays FA Women’s Super League table ahead of Friday’s meeting with Chelsea at Kingsmeadow but their latest opponents are just two points behind with the luxury of a game in hand.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Eidevall said that his focus remains on his side and his vision is set upon Arsenal winning the game.
“I am a believer in us, I can only see us winning,” Eidevall said when discussing the topic of title favouritism with FAWSL Full-Time. “I am positive and I see it that we are going into this with everything to win, everything to achieve and to perform together.
“I don’t think of things from that perspective (who are favourites), we need to believe in the way that we play this game because that’s going to make us win. I can’t be 70% or 80% it doesn’t work like that, I 100% percent believe in the way that we are going to play, we are going to express ourselves, we are going to win.”
Many will see Friday’s clash as a potential title decider and Eidevall said that his side should be confident of winning not afraid of losing.
“It is the most important game because it is the next game,” Eidevall said. “I’m not afraid to lose which means that we want to win. This is about going out there with the attitude that we want to win, not being afraid of losing.”
Arsenal were defeated 3-0 by Chelsea in their last meeting in the Vitality Women’s FA Cup final at Wembley in December. Eidevall highlighted the fact that The Gunners focused on the opposition too much ahead of that game and he has learnt from that mistake.
He said “There will be a lot of focus on how we play. I admitted after the FA Cup final that we put too much focus on Chelsea and too little on the way that we play – you can make a mistake once but not twice, you have to do things differently.”
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Chelsea and Arsenal kicks-off at 7.45pm on Friday evening. The game is a sell-out with no tickets available on the night.
