Birmingham City interim head coach Darren Carter says that his side are ready for the fight against Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.
The Blues lost 2-1 to relegation rivals Leicester City last weekend in a game which saw goalkeeper Emily Ramsey controversially sent-off.
The result leaves Birmingham City five points adrift of safety but interim head coach Carter says that his side are in good spirits and they are ready to fight for everything against latest opponents Spurs at St Andrew’s this weekend.
“Spurs will have high aspirations to finish the season strong and potentially finish in a Champions League qualification spot so it is going to be difficult for us,” Carter said when speaking in his pre-match press conference.
“We have so much fight and so much spirit in this group. We’ve had our fair share of adversity but we are ready for the challenge, we are ready for the fight.
“We will focus completely on how we approach the game and what we can do in it whilst respecting Tottenham as well.”
Birmingham City’s survival bid looks to be a tall order but Carter went on to say that the picture will change every time a ball is kicked.
He said “We know that there are eight games to go and we have to pick up points so we are going to have to play with that pressure, it is there and it is unavoidable. You have to take it a game at a time, you can’t look too far ahead.
“We know that if we can win the game, the picture might change depending on other results and that’s how we’ve got to be every week, focus on ourselves knowing that in this game, things can change very quickly. After the first time we played Leicester, we beat Arsenal so everything changed.
“Last weekend put some distance between us and Leicester but we won’t give up the fight, we will continue to go until the very last kick of the season and I’ve got full belief that we can do it. It’s just going to take a lot of hard work and belief, we’ve got to keep believing.”
Birmingham City’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Tottenham Hotspur kicks-off at 2pm on Sunday afternoon. Tickets will be available to purchase on the day at St Andrew’s.
