Bristol City forward Abi Harrison gave a humble response to breaking the club’s league goalscoring record in The Robins’ 3-0 victory over Durham at Maiden Castle this afternoon.
The Scotland international netted a brace against The Wildcats, taking her league goalscoring tally for Bristol City to 14 goals, the highest goal return of any Bristol City player in league competition.
When speaking after the match, Harrison gave a humble response after learning that she has become Bristol City’s new all-time record league goalscorer.
“It’s good,” the forward chuckled modestly after claiming Bristol City’s league goalscoring record. “As a striker, I want to score goals so long may that continue. Obviously, we have a few more games left this season so I’m looking forward to hopefully scoring more.
“I know that the opportunities are going to come as I know that I am playing with great players. I’ve managed to do that today, I’ve got two and could have probably had a couple more but the second goal is unbelievable team play.”
Maiden Castle is no easy place for any team to go but Bristol City soon grasped the opportunity with both hands after overcoming a strong opening 10 minutes from Durham. Harrison expressed her satisfaction at her side’s performance, particularly in the first half.
She said “I think we knew what we were coming into, it’s Durham away and I think first half, we played them at their own game and we came out on top. In the second half, it’s about finishing the job and we’ve walked away with three points and a clean sheet so we are happy with that.”
Harrison will now link-up with the Scotland team as they travel to Spain to defend the Pinatar Cup. The Tartan Army begin their participation at the tournament against Wales on Wednesday.
