Canada head coach Bev Priestman says that she is looking for Reading forward Deanne Rose to add more goals and assists to her game for her national team.
The 22-year-old has impressed since joining The Royals in the summer, showing plenty of quality in the attacking third.
Rose is a member of the Canada team which will begin their Arnold Clark Cup campaign against England at The Riverside Stadium this evening. With the player having scored 12 goals in 63 outings for Canada so far, head coach Priestman has challenged Rose to bring more goals and assists to the national team.
“She has got goals and assists in her that she can certainly contribute for us,” Priestman said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in the pre-match press conference. “We have seen flashes of what Deanne can do for Canada but I think that what we will see now is a more consistent player because she is in a great environment (at Reading).
“She will tell you that she wants to add goals and assists because that’s what she does for Reading.”
Rose’s decision to join Reading was a big one with the player moving into the European game for the first time. Priestman went on to highlight the great start that the player has made to life in England.
She said “She was in NCAA college football, short season, tight games with roll on, roll off subs. I think she has settled into the WSL really, really well, she has scored goals and got assists.
“Working every day in that professional environment, you can see her qualities – not only technically but tactically, on and off the pitch, you can see it and you can feel it. Even in training, you can sense it.
“She is in a really great space to put her best foot forward for this team, she is doing fantastic.”
Canada’s opening Arnold Clark Cup fixture against England kicks-off at 7.30pm.
