Just the one Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture takes place in midweek with West Ham United hosting Chelsea at The Chigwell Construction Stadium on Thursday evening.
West Ham United return to home soil for the first time in well over a month while Chelsea are back in league action for the first time since their goalless draw with Arsenal on 11 February.
Ahead of what promises to be an exciting London derby, FAWSL Full-Time have been looking at the statistics surrounding the match. Here are four facts which relate to West Ham United’s meeting with Chelsea.
Two sides who know each other very well
Thursday’s meeting between West Ham United and Chelsea is the third of 2022. Chelsea have won the two previous meetings by two-goal margins. The Blues were 4-2 winners at West Ham United in the quarter-finals of the FA Women’s Continental League Cup while they defeated The Hammers 2-0 at home in the league.
A marathon not a sprint for West Ham
Five of the six goals which Chelsea have scored against West Ham United this season have come in the second half. The Hammers have proved that they can contain The Blues early on in games but the target will now be to remain in the contest for the entirety.
Chelsea bidding to continue record
Chelsea have won on all three of their league visits to West Ham United in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The Blues won 2-0 in East London in West Ham United’s debut top flight campaign before running out 3-1 winners at Rush Green in the curtailed 2019/2020 season. Emma Hayes’ side were also victorious at West Ham United last season, winning 2-0.
Nouwen’s towering presence could be a factor
Dutch defender Aniek Nouwen came out on top for interceptions in Chelsea’s 2-0 Barclays FA Women’s Super League victory over West Ham United in January. Nouwen intercepted the ball on 12 occasions in the match, more than double any other player. She will be hoping to make a similar impact on Thursday evening.
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between West Ham United and Chelsea kicks-off at 7.45pm on Thursday evening. Tickets are on-sale now and can be purchased by clicking here.
