Everton must do everything right against Chelsea to get a result says interim boss Roberts

Everton’s interim manager Chris Roberts says that there is no margin for error when his side take on Chelsea at Walton Hall Park this evening.

The Blue Girls have taken just one point from their last seven Barclays FA Women’s Super League meetings with the reigning champions, a statistic that Everton will hope to improve.

When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time ahead of the match, Everton’s interim boss Roberts said that his side must do everything right if they are to have a chance of defeating the South West Londoners.

“We have to do everything right, we are playing against one of the best teams in the world,” Roberts said. “We have to be very prepared, very focused, we need to make sure that we do our jobs well individually so that the collective unit of the team can stand up to what will be a very difficult task.

“If the team can stay together, work hard and suffer at times in the game but come through that, we can definitely get something. It is about that collective unity which I have spoken about a lot – do your job individually and do your job as a group. Of course, against top teams you need a little bit of luck to go your way so hopefully, we will have that as well.”

Everton have been low on confidence at times this season but Roberts went on to say that the club’s recent run of three consecutive victories has given his side a real boost.

He said “Any win or successive wins will always bring the mood in the camp up so that has been a positive in the last few weeks with three wins on the bounce now against Charlton, Villa and Leicester. They have been three different kinds of wins – Charlton was very controlled, Villa we had to be quite resilient in the first half and we showed really good fighting spirit in the second half and against Leicester we controlled large parts of the game but we had to weather a storm at the end.

“It has been good to see the resilience of the team and to get the three wins. It improves the mood in the camp and gives everyone that bit of confidence.”

Everton’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Chelsea kicks-off at 7pm this evening.
