‘There’s no time to dwell’ – Everton only looking at next Manchester City clash says Roberts

Everton’s interim manager Chris Roberts says that his side do not have the time to dwell on Sunday’s Vitality Women’s FA Cup quarter-final defeat to Manchester City and they are now looking ahead to Wednesday’s fixture against the same opponents.

The Blue Girls lost 4-0 at The Academy Stadium on Sunday as they exited the Vitality Women’s FA Cup. They return to The City Football Academy on Wednesday evening, this time to contest a Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against the same opponents.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Everton boss Roberts said that his side are now only focusing on the game which is ahead of them.

“It was a tough game (on Sunday) but we have a game three days’ later and you have to bounce back quickly, you have to recover quickly, you have to prepare quickly,” Roberts said. “Our focus is instantly back on the next game, there’s no time to dwell, every minute is precious between the games.

“It has been an easy turnaround for us in terms of time. We have looked at the video and analysed it and have worked hard on the training pitch to try to be better, improve things in defence and attack. We are as focused as always and we are ready for the game.”

Manchester City bossed the possession in the last meeting between the two clubs at the weekend, however, Everton made little territory when they did have the ball. Roberts went on to say that an improvement in the in-possession work is required on Wednesday as well as polishing up the out of possession work.

He said “First and foremost, the players have given their all, I can’t fault their attitude and desire, they give everything that they can. We need to improve our game management at times with and without the ball, holding onto the ball for longer, being more confident in possession and being a little bit more difficult to play against without the ball in certain moments.

“The timing of some of the goals that we have lost has been disappointing for us, that’s something that we have looked at and want to improve on but the quality that we are up against is excellent. There were positives to take and we need to focus on taking them into the next game.”

Everton’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture at Manchester City kicks-off at 7pm on Wednesday evening.
