Skinner feeling ‘wonderful history’ of Old Trafford ahead of Manchester United’s big occasion

Manchester United head coach Marc Skinner says that he is feeling the wonderful history of Old Trafford ahead of his side’s fixture against Everton this afternoon.

The Red Devils will face The Blue Girls in-front of fans at ‘The Theatre of Dreams’ for the very first time with more than 20,000 expected to be in attendance.

Ahead of the match, head coach Skinner and his players had the opportunity to take in the surroundings at Old Trafford. Skinner said that he feels the history and romance of one of the most iconic stadiums in world football.

“It is a special stadium,” Skinner said when speaking to FAWSL Full-Time. “When I look around, it just feels like it has got this wonderful history, you can feel it, you can absorb it. There is some romanticism still left in football where you can feel these things and I am big on that.

“It will be something that we can manage but it will be exciting and it should be. To play in this wonderful stadium in-front of our fans, hopefully, it will extract every bit of energy from our players.”

Manchester United go into the game as heavy favourites but Skinner is taking nothing for granted and he went on to highlight the strong squad which has been assembled on Merseyside.

He said “If you are playing well and you want to be a team where people class you as favourites, you must be doing something right.

“What I would say about Everton is that results aside, there are brilliant players in that team, really good players. If you go from one to 11, you can see that it is a really good quality, experienced team. At the minute, they haven’t had the momentum to get it together but they do in moments and they have the ability.

“Everton can come here if we are not 100% focused and be in the same contention as us in any moment of this game. We have to be very focused, very understanding of this wonderful occasion but back to business.”

Manchester United’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Everton kicks-off at 12.30pm.
