Manchester United goalkeeper Mary Earps says that she feels that she is in great form ahead of her latest involvement with the England team.
The 29-year-old is a member of Sarina Wiegman’s Lionesses squad which will face North Macedonia and Northern Ireland in their latest FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifiers in the coming days.
After being out of the picture at international level prior to Wiegman’s appointment, Earps has returned to the England squad with a bang since the Dutch coach’s arrival, recording six clean sheets in seven games. Ahead of Friday’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifier against North Macedonia in Skopje, Earps told the media that she feels that she is performing at her best levels.
“I feel in great form and I think that I am just really focused on trying to continue that as much as possible,” Earps said in an England media day in which FAWSL Full-Time were present. “I am really enjoying my football and long may that continue. I am a believer that you should just put your best foot forward, give your absolute all and see where you end up, especially the journey that I have been on over the last few years.
“You never know what’s going to happen and I am not someone who takes anything for granted, I don’t feel entitled to anything, I just want to show up, enjoy and love what I do, be happy and hopefully, help the team in any way that I can for Manchester United and for England.”
Earps was the surprise inclusion on the England teamsheet the last time that they faced North Macedonia back in September. The keeper went on to say that her England progression has been beyond her wildest dreams while she is taking the situation game-by-game.
She said “I turned up to that camp (Wiegman’s first camp) with absolutely no expectations which is the same approach that I take to every camp and to train the absolute best every day. Being able to play in that game was fantastic and I could never have dreamed of what was to come.
“I’ve just taken it day-by-day, game-by-game and tried to give my absolute all. I’ve been absolutely loving it.”
Earps is again likely to be fielded by England head coach Wiegman when the Lionesses aim to take another step towards the FIFA Women’s World Cup with victory in North Macedonia on Friday night.
