England will be hoping to close in on FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualification when they take on Northern Ireland at Windsor Park in Belfast on Tuesday evening.
The Lionesses are a maximum of four points away from securing their place at next summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup. Victory over Northern Ireland at a sell-out Windsor Park is likely to move them to within a point of qualification, however, they could even qualify on the night in the unlikely event that second-placed Austria fail to secure a home win against Latvia.
Northern Ireland boss Kenny Shiels is likely to keep faith with the majority of the side which lost 3-1 to Austria in Wiener Neustadt on Friday evening. Should changes be made, defender Rebecca McKenna could be one of those most likely to come in while Kirsty McGuinness and Nadene Caldwell are experienced options.
England head coach Sarina Wiegman has indicated that she will make few changes to her squad following Friday’s 10-0 victory over North Macedonia in Skopje but captain Leah Williamson will return. Beth England and Niamh Charles have recovered from COVID-19 and are part of the group but veteran midfielder Jill Scott is out.
The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifier between Northern Ireland and England kicks-off at 7.55pm on Tuesday evening.
