Brighton & Hove Albion manager Hope Powell says that this weekend’s opponents Everton have had a poor season but they do have the quality in their ranks to pull out a performance.
The Seagulls face The Blue Girls in their final game of the season at The People’s Pension Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
When speaking in the pre-match press conference, Powell said that Everton have had a poor season but she also acknowledged that the Merseyside club do have the players to be able to pull a big performance out of the bag.
“The game will be challenging,” Powell said. “If you look at Everton player for player, they’re very good and actually, they have really underperformed and we know that. They’re on their third manager in one season so there’s something wrong there.
“They definitely have underperformed but they did well against Tottenham, a side who you would argue are having a very good season so we know that it is going to be a tough game, every game is quite a challenge.”
Everton have appointed a new permanent manager for next season with Danish coach Brian Sørensen set to take over at Walton Hall Park. Powell believes that the players will be wanting to impress their new boss in the final game of the season.
She said “I believe that Brian has been over most weekends watching the games, he has been over flying backwards and forwards.
“Those players will want to showcase their capabilities to ensure that they play their part in his plan for the future I’m sure. If that was me as a player, that’s what I’d be doing.
“They’ll want to come and prove a point, we beat them last time and people wouldn’t have expected that given the investment, the money that they have spent and the players that they have. This is going to be tough and we are going to really have to be on our game to get something out of it.”
The Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture between Brighton & Hove Albion and Everton kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
