Reading aiming to frustrate ‘rampant’ Manchester City says Chambers

Reading manager Kelly Chambers says that her side will be looking to frustrate a ‘rampant’ Manchester City team this weekend.

The Royals face The Cityzens in their final game of the season at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Sunday. Manchester City need a point to make sure of UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification.

Gareth Taylor’s side arrive in Berkshire having won their last eight league games in which they have scored 27 goals. When speaking ahead of the match, Reading boss Chambers said that her side’s focus will be to frustrate their opponents.

“It’s going to be a tough game, they’ve been quite rampant in-front of goal in their recent matches,” Chambers said. “Birmingham did a very good job at frustrating them for 45 minutes in midweek and our game will be their third in a week.

“We know what we are going to be facing and for us, we will take our approach into the game in terms of tactically to try and frustrate them and be defensively strong. That’s the stuff that we have been working on this week.”

This season has been a battle at times for Manchester City given their injury crisis in the first half of the campaign but Chambers praised the work of The Cityzens’ head coach Taylor.

She said “Having players coming back has helped, they had a lot of injuries at the start of the season. Players have come back into the process and back into the team so that will have definitely helped.

“Gareth has done exceptionally well, he knows what the team can achieve and he has had to be patient. He has trusted the process and the players and that they would turn it around and we have been able to see the fruitions of that now.

“For me, if you watch them, they are unstoppable at the minute. Every team that comes up against them will set up in different ways to prevent them but they have world-class players in their set up. For us on Sunday, we will have to try and make that game as difficult as possible and that is firstly about making sure that we are defensively strong.

Reading’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League fixture against Manchester City kicks-off at 12pm on Sunday afternoon.
