Experienced midfielder Simpkins announces Brighton & Hove Albion departure

Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Emily Simpkins has confirmed that she will leave the club at the end of her contract.

The 31-year-old Burton upon Trent-born midfielder joined The Seagulls in 2018 and she has gone on to make 42 appearances for the Sussex club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.

Simpkins took to Twitter to inform Brighton & Hove Albion fans of her departure earlier today. She joins Aileen Whelan and Inessa Kaagman in leaving the Sussex club this summer.

The midfielder has enjoyed a successful career in the game to date with Simpkins spending most of her time playing in the top flight. The player started her senior footballing journey with Nottingham Forest before enjoying the first of two spells at Doncaster Rovers Belles. Simpkins then spent time with Leicester City and Coventry United before joining top tier side Birmingham City in 2012. After more than three years with the Blues, Simpkins returned to Doncaster Rovers Belles where she won the FA Women’s Super League 2 title before joining Brighton & Hove Albion when they were awarded a top tier licence in 2018.

Simpkins started just six of Brighton & Hove Albion’s Barclays FA Women’s Super League matches this season and a fresh challenge should allow the player to benefit from more regular game time.
