West Ham United midfielder Brynjarsdóttir signs new two-year deal

West Ham United midfielder Dagný Brynjarsdóttir has signed a new two-year contract according to reports on The Hammers’ official website.

The 30-year-old Icelandic international is the second player to commit her future to the East Londoners with Kate Longhurst having also signed fresh terms with the club last week.

Brynjarsdóttir joined West Ham United in the January 2021 transfer window and she has gone on to make 29 Barclays FA Women’s Super League appearances for The Hammers in which she has scored four goals. The player made a big contribution towards West Ham United’s highest-ever league placing of sixth this season and she will be hoping for further success in her next two years in East London.

After signing on again at The Chigwell Construction Stadium, Brynjarsdóttir said “I’m delighted to be able to stay with West Ham United. I have really enjoyed the last year-and-a-half here and I’m looking forward to making some more memories in claret and blue.

“The Club has a real family feel to it and they really support me as a mum with my son Brynjar. West Ham United have made it feel like home for myself and my family since we arrived and my support for the Club is a big part of that.

“I think I’ve really improved as a player since I arrived in London. I still want to continue to improve and hopefully, I can help the team to build on the progress that we’ve made over the past season.

“I’m already looking forward to the new campaign. When there are changes within the club, it’s always a little bit sad when you have to say goodbye, but it’s also exciting.

“I really respect Konch (Paul Konchesky) as a coach, so I’m excited to be a part of his first West Ham team.”

Brynjarsdóttir was the second most-used West Ham United player this season with only Longhurst making more appearances for the club in the Barclays FA Women’s Super League.
