Chelsea boss Hayes and Liverpool’s Beard honoured at LMA Awards

Chelsea manager Emma Hayes and Liverpool boss Matt Beard picked up Manager of the Season awards at the League Managers Association’s (LMA) annual awards ceremony last night.

Both managers guided their respective clubs to league titles in 2021/2022 with Hayes’ Chelsea also lifting the Vitality Women’s FA Cup at Wembley.

Hayes’ Blues had an excellent double-winning season in which they battled some difficult off-field challenges to secure their silverware. Chelsea had to overcome a COVID-19 outbreak mid-season along with some injuries to key players. The South West Londoners were also the subject of some unique Government restrictions following owner Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell the club as a result of the war between Russia and Ukraine. Manager Hayes helped Chelsea to keep their focus and performance levels high as they went on to retain the Barclays FA Women’s Super League title and feature in two domestic cup finals, lifting the Vitality Women’s FA Cup just 10 days’ ago.

Liverpool manager Matt Beard has enjoyed an excellent second spell on Merseyside since returning to the club last summer. Beard assembled a strong squad of players which guided Liverpool to a long-awaited promotion back to the Barclays FA Women’s Super League. The Reds were promoted by early April, winning the title with an 11-point margin.

Last night’s LMA awards ceremony celebrated the achievements of both the elite men’s and women’s managers and coaches with the winners of several other award categories also announced.
