Manager Bradford announces Coventry United departure

Coventry United manager Jay Bradford has announced the news that she has left her position.

Bradford helped guide Coventry United to a dramatic final day escape from relegation this season. The club had been harshly deducted 10 points in January following their former owners’ decision to file for liquidation but The Red and Greens overcame the odds to survive thanks to a stunning 97th-minute winner from Mollie Green at Watford on the final day.

After writing a new chapter in Coventry United’s history with that win at Vicarage Road, manager Bradford was expected to kick on with plans for a less turbulent campaign in 2022/2023, however, she has this evening confirmed that she will not be in charge at the Butts Park Arena next season.

Announcing her departure via her personal Twitter account, Bradford said “I have experienced the greatest highs and the cruelest lows of football during my time at the club.

“I would like to thank every staff member that joined me during my tenure, whether it be season after season or for just a short spell.

“To the fans of this club, thank you for your unwavering support.

“I owe my biggest thanks to the players that wore the shirt. They made everything possible. They captured the heart of Coventry and delivered time and time again.

“I can’t sign off without mentioning ‘The Great Escape’. I am not sure I will ever fully recover from the enormity of what we achieved. I am beyond proud that I leave the club with its FA Championship status intact.

“I am unsure on what is next, but I know I’m ready for it.”

Bradford has helped Coventry United to steer themselves clear of relegation in each of the last three seasons in the FA Women’s Championship. She was a promotion winner with The Red and Greens in 2019 while she has also lifted the FA Women’s National League Plate and two County Cups with the Warwickshire club.

Coventry United are now expected to begin their search for a new manager ahead of the players’ return to training in the summer.
