Defender Aleixandri completes Manchester City move

Manchester City have completed the signing of Spanish international defender Laia Aleixandri on a three-year deal.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Manchester City this afternoon.

The 21-year-old defender will join The Cityzens on 1 July once her contract with current club Atlético Madrid comes to an end. The transfer ends months of speculation linking Aleixandri with a move to The Academy Stadium.

Aleixandri has spent the last five years with Atlético Madrid in which she has made close to 150 appearances for the club in all competitions. She has won two league titles and the Spanish Women’s Super Cup while the player has plenty of UEFA Women’s Champions League experience under her belt.

On the international stage, Aleixandri has made 10 senior appearances for Spain, scoring two goals.

After completing her move to Manchester City, Aleixandri said “I am very happy to be here and to be a part of this amazing Club – I am very excited for what is to come.

“Manchester City is a very big club with top players and staff, and I believe this is the best move for me to make. This is a team who likes to play with the ball and with an offensive style, and that suits me personally.

“My dream here is to win a lot of titles and to improve as a player with the help of my new teammates.”

Aleixandri joins Deyna Castellanos and Leila Ouahabi in moving to Manchester City so far this summer.
