Contract discussions ongoing between Arsenal and goalkeeper Williams

Arsenal are currently in contract talks with Australian international goalkeeper Lydia Williams.

The 34-year-old is believed to be out of contract at the LV Bet Stadium at the end of the month. Williams has spent the last two seasons with The Gunners.

Arsenal provided a squad update via their official club website earlier today which confirms that they are continuing talks with Williams. At this stage, it is unclear whether Williams will be staying on or leaving the Barclays Women’s Super League club this summer.

Williams has largely been an understudy to first choice Arsenal goalkeeper Manuela Zinsberger this summer. The veteran stopper made two appearances in the Barclays Women’s Super League and was handed a further six outings in the domestic and European cup competitions by head coach Jonas Eidevall. Williams has been a more than reliable deputy with the keeper having recorded six clean sheets in those eight matches.

The Australian is set to enjoy her 15th year as a senior footballer in 2022/2023. Williams has played her football far and wide with eight clubs based in Australia, Sweden, the United States and England. It is thought that the keeper has made in excess of 300 appearances in her career to date for club and country.

Further details on Williams’ Arsenal future will be announced once talks between the two parties have concluded.
