Durham goalkeeper McAloon handed first Republic of Ireland call-up

Durham goalkeeper Naoisha McAloon has received her first call-up to the Republic of Ireland senior squad.

The Girls in Green will face the Philippines in an international friendly in Antalya, Turkey on Sunday before travelling to Gori to take on Georgia in a FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia and New Zealand 2023 qualifier on 27 June.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) informed FAWSL Full-Time of head coach Vera Pauw’s 27-player squad for the upcoming internationals this morning with Durham goalkeeper McAloon being a surprise inclusion. The 23-year-old has previously represented her country at Under-17 and Under-19 levels but she is still awaiting her first senior cap. McAloon is one of four goalkeepers named in the Republic of Ireland squad with Courtney Brosnan (Everton), Megan Walsh (Brighton & Hove Albion) and Grace Moloney (Reading) also selected.

McAloon completed a move to Barclays Women’s Championship club Durham during the January transfer window. The keeper has recorded three clean sheets in eight league outings for The Wildcats. McAloon is a member of a Durham side who are moving to a full-time operating model in 2022/2023.

Forward Saoirse Noonan, a player who is also on Durham’s books but is currently spending time with Shelbourne, has been included alongside club teammate McAloon in the latest Republic of Ireland selection.
