Key dates confirmed for new BWSL and BWC seasons

The key dates for the 2022/2023 Barclays Women’s Super League and Barclays Women’s Championship seasons have this morning been revealed.

Fans have been eagerly awaiting the publication of the 2022/2023 calendar and The Football Association this morning revealed some of the key dates. The full fixture lists for both leagues will be announced in mid-July with a final date yet to be agreed.

It has been revealed that the opening weekend of the newly-branded Barclays Women’s Super League season will be 9-11 September 2022. This is one week later than last season as a result of the international calendar. The new Barclays Women’s Super League season will see Chelsea defend their league crown while Liverpool return to the league following a two-year absence. There also promises to be a keenly-fought battle for European qualification. The Barclays Women’s Super League is scheduled to finish much later next season on the weekend of 27-28 May 2023.

The newly-sponsored Barclays Women’s Championship will kick-off on the weekend of 20-21 August 2022. Birmingham City will be looking to mount an immediate promotion challenge back to the top flight but expect several other clubs to fancy their chances of winning the league title. Southampton will begin their life as an elite club after their rapid rise up the pyramid. The Barclays Women’s Championship season will end on the weekend of 29-30 April 2023.

No matches will be played in either league between 19 December 2022 and 13 January 2023 while the 2022/2023 Vitality Women’s FA Cup final is scheduled to be played at Wembley on the weekend of 13-14 May 2023.
