Southampton have revealed the news that seven players are leaving the club following their promotion to the Barclays Women’s Championship.
The Saints provided a squad update yesterday via a post on their official club website.
It has been confirmed that Alisha Ware, Caitlin Morris, Katie Rood, Kirsty Whitton, Sara Luce, Shannon Sievwright and Shelly Provan will all be playing their football elsewhere next season. Ware was the most used player of those to be departing, she made 32 appearances for The Saints in the regular season, scoring eight goals. Morris and Rood also featured in the majority of games for Marieanne Spacey-Cale’s side.
Southampton have also announced that 13 players have been retained, those being Megan Collett, Georgie Freeland, Alice Griffiths, Lucia Kendall, Ella Morris, Milly Mott, Rosanna Parnell, Sophia Pharoah, Laura Rafferty, Kayla Rendell, Leeta Rutherford, Ciara Watling and Phoebe Williams. The club have revealed that contract talks are ongoing with top scorer Ella Pusey with Southampton keen to retain the player’s services for 2022/2023.
After finishing the regular FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division season top of the table, Southampton went on to defeat Wolverhampton Wanderers 1-0 in the FA Women’s National League Championship Play-Off Final to secure their promotion to the second tier.
