Manchester City to face Tomiris-Turan in Round 1 of UEFA Women’s Champions League

Manchester City will face Kazakhstani club Tomiris-Turan in Round 1 of next season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League.

The Round 1 draw took place this lunchtime at UEFA headquarters in Nyon, Switzerland and was streamed live on uefa.com.

The draw split teams into a ‘champions path’ and a ‘league path’. Manchester City were the top seeds in the ‘league path’ based on UEFA co-efficient ranking and their status as the third-placed side in this season’s Barclays Women’s Super League. Like last season, Round 1 will see teams play a one-off semi-final and a final (other than the three-team groups in the ‘champions path’) with the overall winners advancing to Round 2. All matches will be played at one venue which will be decided in due course.

The draw determined that Manchester City will face Kazakhstani side Tomiris-Turan in their Round 1 semi-final. Gareth Taylor’s side are classed as the ‘home’ team given their UEFA co-efficient ranking. Should The Cityzens be successful in that tie, they will then take on either Spanish giants Real Madrid or Austrian club Sturm Graz in the final for the right to claim a place in Round 2. The Round 1 semi-finals will take place on 18 August and the final/third-place play-off will follow on 21 August.

As Barclays Women’s Super League runners-up, Arsenal will join this season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League in Round 2 while champions Chelsea come in at the group stage.

The 2022/2023 UEFA Women’s Champions League final will be held in Eindhoven, The Netherlands on the first weekend of June 2023.

Round 1 Draw – Manchester City’s group only

Semi-final 1 – Real Madrid v Sturm Graz

Semi-final 2 – Manchester City v Tomiris-Turan

Third-place play-off – Loser SF1 v Loser SF2

Final – Winner SF1 v Winner SF2
