Defender Kayleigh McDonald has signed a professional contract with Blackburn Rovers for the new Barclays Women’s Championship season according to reports on the Lancashire club’s official website.
The 28-year-old has been on Blackburn Rovers’ books for the last six years and her new deal will now take her into a seventh season with Gemma Donnelly’s side.
In Blackburn Rovers’ three seasons in the Barclays Women’s Championship, McDonald has appeared for the club on 41 occasions, scoring her only goal in her side’s 1-0 victory over Lewes at The Sir Tom Finney Stadium back in February this year. The defender has helped her side to record 10 clean sheets. McDonald remains an important member of the Blackburn Rovers side and manager Donnelly has therefore opted to retain the player’s services for another year.
McDonald’s new deal comes just days after her defensive colleague Jade Richards also agreed to extend her contract. The pair are influential characters at the back for Blackburn Rovers and their new deals provide the club with some defensive stability going into 2022/2023.
McDonald becomes the tenth player to sign on the dotted line at Blackburn Rovers this summer. She follows Hannah Coan, Alex Brooks, Helen Seed, Emma Doyle, Lauren Thomas, Ellie Leek, Farah Crompton, Megan Hornby and Richards in dedicating her immediate future to the Lancashire club.
