Sheffield United defender Wilson signs new deal

Sheffield United defender Ellie Wilson has signed a new contract with the Barclays Women’s Championship club for next season.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Sheffield United earlier today.

The Reading-born defender has spent the last two seasons with The Blades after joining the club from London Bees. Wilson successfully recovered from an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury to make 11 Barclays Women’s Championship appearances for Sheffield United in the second half of this season while she netted an impressive three goals. After proving her fitness, Wilson will be keen to reach new heights with the South Yorkshire club in 2022/2023.

After signing on again with Sheffield United, Wilson said “I’m really happy to be staying at Sheffield United. Despite my injury, I’ve enjoyed the last two seasons and I feel like I’ve found a bit of a home here to be honest. I love the club, love the city, love
the team and I’m looking forward to getting going again.

“Even more so when I compare where I am now to where I was this time last year during my rehab, it’s a massive difference, so I’m excited to be able to hit the ground running in pre-season this time and get straight to work on the pitch with the girls.

“We finished strongly last year and have kept majority of the squad together, which is great because not only have we got a strong foundation to build on, but as a team we know we’ll all work hard for each other and no doubt that will benefit us going into the new season.”

Wilson becomes the 12th Sheffield United player to sign on for 2022/2023. She follows Courtney Sweetman-Kirk, Maddy Cusack, Charlotte Newsham, Tamara Wilcock, Lara Miller, Mia Enderby, Bex Rayner, Alethea Paul, Georgia Walters, Chenè Muir and Nina Wilson in signing a new deal with The Blades.
