Northern Ireland international defender Rebecca McKenna has signed a new contract with Lewes for next season.
Lewes announced the news this evening via a post on their official club Twitter account.
The 21-year-old joined The Rookettes from Danske Bank Women’s Premiership club Linfield last summer. McKenna went on to make 20 appearances for Lewes in this season’s Barclays Women’s Championship. The player’s good form for her club has been replicated on the international stage with McKenna cementing her place in the Northern Ireland squad for the UEFA Women’s EURO 2022.
McKenna now has a further opportunity to develop as an elite footballer after agreeing to stay with Lewes for another season.
After signing on again at The Dripping Pan, McKenna said “I signed for Lewes last year, coming from part-time football. They gave me the opportunity as a professional to step into full-time football for which I can’t thank the staff, players, fans and board enough, making me so welcome.
“I’m ecstatic to be signing for the club again and to work with a proven winner in Scott (Booth), to play with the best bunch of girls who are like family to me. I know we’ll push on this year and hopefully give the fans a season to remember along with performances to match.”
McKenna joins Ellie Hack, Ellie Mason, Paula Howells, Amelia Hazard and Izzy Dalton in signing on with Lewes for 2022/2023.
