Winger Dodds re-joins Sunderland

Winger Tyler Dodds has re-joined Barclays Women’s Championship club Sunderland according to reports on The Lady Black Cats’ official website.

The 26-year-old Gateshead-born attacker was previously a member of the Sunderland squad which competed in the old FA Women’s Super League 1 prior to their demotion to the third tier in 2018.

Since leaving The Lady Black Cats at the end of her first spell on Wearside, Dodds has enjoyed a good level of success. She helped Italian club ASD Calcio Pomigliano to promotion to Serie A while she was a Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 runner-up with Glasgow City this season. Dodds was also a runner-up in both domestic cup competitions with the Petershill Park-based outfit.

Dodds will now be looking to prove her quality back in the English game in the Barclays Women’s Championship with Sunderland.

After signing on with Melanie Ray’s side, Dodds said “I’m really happy to be back home – this is the club I’ve grown up at.

“I’ve been away and got some good experience, met some great people along the way, but now I’m just really glad to be back. Hopefully I can come in and share my knowledge with the younger players and help the team. I feel a better-rounded player having now played in the Champions League and been abroad, which was a great experience.

“Last time I was here, I was a very young player and really looked up to the more senior players, so I think it’s important to have that variety of ages in the squad – maybe the younger players can teach me a thing or two as well.”

Dodds becomes Sunderland’s third signing of the summer following the recent additions of Nicki Gears and Abby Holmes.

In other news, defender Grace Boyes has left Sunderland to pursue new opportunities. The player made one appearance for The Lady Black Cats in the Barclays Women’s Championship this season.
