England midfielder Georgia Stanway says that the Lionesses have been told to enjoy the unique experience of a home EUROs this summer by members of the men’s senior side.
Sarina Wiegman’s side begin their quest for UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 glory on Wednesday evening when they face Austria in their opening match of the tournament at a sold out Old Trafford. The Lionesses have received messages of support from the England men’s side in recent weeks including from their head coach Gareth Southgate and midfielder Stanway says that the main instruction is to enjoy the big occasion of a home EUROs.
“I think the biggest thing they said was to just enjoy it,” Stanway said when speaking on Lionesses Live. “You’re probably never going to experience a home tournament ever again, because they don’t come around too often so literally just making the most of it.
“Being able to get that balance on and off the pitch and being able to connect with the fans and your family.”
The Lionesses are now just four days away from opening their EUROs in front of the eyes of the watching nation and Stanway said that the feeling is very good across the squad.
She added “The vibe is good. I think everyone’s pretty chilled so that’s the main thing. We’ve been here (on camp) for about four weeks now and had the chance to come and go a little bit to have time with our families so it’s been good and refreshing.
“We’re ready to get down to the real business now.”
