Portsmouth complete signing of Charlton Athletic winger Quirk

Portsmouth have completed the signing of winger Sophie Quirk according to reports on their official club website.

The 20-year-old joins Jay Sadler’s side after spending the 2021/2022 campaign with Barclays Women’s Championship club Charlton Athletic. Quirk spent one season with The Addicks in which she made seven appearances for the club in the second tier.

Quirk is in need of more regular minutes and she should now get that in the FA Women’s National League Southern Premier Division with new club Portsmouth. The youngster joins a Pompey side which finished the 2021/2022 campaign in seventh position and the club are very much keen to push on this season.

After securing Quirk’s services, Portsmouth boss Sadler said “Sophie is a really talented young player and I’m thrilled she’s signed with us.

“She’s a fast, dynamic attacking player who possesses the qualities to stretch and get in behind the backline, but also the intelligence to exploit spaces in between.

“Every time I’ve seen her play, she has excited me, especially with her movement and tenacity.

“Following our discussions, her ambition matches that of the club, and after monitoring her progress over the last couple of years, I’m delighted to get the opportunity to work with her and support her development.”

Portsmouth become Quirk’s fourth club. In addition to Charlton Athletic, the player has also represented Reading and London Bees at senior level.
