Real Madrid have confirmed the signing of midfielder Caroline Weir following her recent departure from former club Manchester City.
The Whites announced the deal via a post on their official club Twitter account a short time ago.
Weir was always expected to join the Spanish giants after opting to leave Manchester City at the end of last season and she has today completed her move to the Estadio Alfredo Di Stéfano.
The Scotland international spent four seasons with The Cityzens after joining the club from Liverpool in summer 2018. The player went on to make 124 appearances in all competitions in a Manchester City shirt while she netted 38 goals. Weir was one for the big occasion with her long range strikes providing some of the most memorable moments in Manchester derbies.
The midfielder left Manchester City having won two FA Women’s Continental League Cups and two Vitality Women’s FA Cups. In addition to her domestic achievements, Weir also represented Manchester City in Europe in the UEFA Women’s Champions League. She could come up against her former employers very soon with both Manchester City and Real Madrid having been drawn in the same group in the UEFA Women’s Champions League’s Round 1.
Full details of Weir’s move to Real Madrid are set to be announced by the Spanish club shortly.
