Liverpool defender Leighanne Robe has signed a new contract with the club according to reports on The Reds’ official website.
The 28-year-old Cambridge-born full-back has spent the last four seasons with Liverpool after joining the club from Millwall Lionesses back in 2018. Robe has been a consistent member of the team throughout her entire spell to date on Merseyside.
Last season was arguably one of Robe’s best in a Liverpool shirt. The player made 15 appearances for The Reds as they won the Barclays Women’s Championship title and a return to the Barclays Women’s Super League. Robe will now be looking forward to testing herself in the top flight once again after signing her new deal.
After committing her future to Liverpool, Robe said “I’m really happy to have signed a new deal and to be staying for the new season going into the WSL.
“It really doesn’t feel like I’ve been here for four years, I feel that reflects the team spirit we have at the moment and Matt (Beard) coming in last year – I said then it literally felt like I’d joined a new team.
“When we got relegated (in 2020) I signed a new contract, I wanted to commit to the club and the challenge of getting back to the WSL so it was satisfying when we did that last season and I can go back into the WSL with Liverpool.
“We know it’s going to be a hard challenge going into the WSL. We’re just going to have to work hard and stick to our standards, but we’re ready for it and we’re excited for it.”
Robe becomes the fourth Liverpool player to sign a new contract with the club this summer.
