Pressure on Norway as much as it is England says Wiegman ahead of second group match

England head coach Sarina Wiegman says that there is as much pressure on Norway as there is on the Lionesses ahead of their meeting at the Amex Stadium in Brighton this evening.

Both sides won their opening UEFA Women’s EURO 2022 matches against Austria and Northern Ireland and England are amongst the favourites to win the tournament.

When speaking in the pre-match press conference, England boss Wiegman played down any favourites tag and insisted that the same pressure will be on Norway in Brighton this evening.

“I don’t think so,” Wiegman replied when asked whether all of the pressure is on the Lionesses following comments from Norwegian head coach Martin Sjögren. “Norway have to win too to be top of the group. We want to win but it is easy to say the pressure is on us.

“We want to play our best game, we want to entertain and of course, we want to win games and our next game is against Norway. We want to win that game and that is what we are all talking about – developing our style of play, playing our best game, doing our best and then we will see what that brings us.”

Wiegman went on to say that she is expecting another tough game this evening, although Norway have their weaknesses.

She said “They have a good team and they have Hegerberg back which is good for them, having a player and a personality like that is very good for the game too.

“We also think that they have some weaknesses and we will be trying to exploit them.”
