England Women’s record goalscorer Ellen White says that the team are fortunate to have a player in form in Beth Mead.
The Arsenal forward has taken the UEFA Women’s EURO by storm so far, scoring four goals including a hat-trick in the Lionesses’ 8-0 victory over Norway at the Amex Stadium on Monday evening, a result which saw England qualify for the quarter-finals.
Mead is now in with a good chance of winning the tournament’s Golden Boot and teammate White says that England have a special player on their hands.
“She’s pretty good, isn’t she?,” White said when speaking on Lionesses Live. “She’s in phenomenal form at the moment and again, we’re so lucky that she’s part of this team. I don’t know what we’re feeding her but we’ve got to keep that going!
“We’re wrapping her in cotton wool. What she brings to the team is incredible – the goals, the assists, her energy. It’s amazing.”
White netted twice herself in that 8-0 mauling of Norway and she went on to admit that the England players were stunned by their record-breaking victory when chatting after the match.
She said “We just kept asking each other ‘what has happened?’ It was such a special evening and obviously, we still need to remain calm and collected, but we need to enjoy those moments as well.
“Now we’ve got to look forward to playing Northern Ireland, but Monday night was super special. Hopefully, everyone watching in the stadium is super proud of this England team.”
