Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Wynne joins Southampton

Former Charlton Athletic midfielder Megan Wynne has joined newly-promoted Barclays Women’s Championship club Southampton according to reports on The Saints’ official website.

The 29-year-old Welsh international midfielder joins the South Coast club on a free transfer after leaving former side Charlton Athletic at the end of the season.

Wynne has gained plenty of elite level playing experience in recent seasons, either side of an Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injury sustained ahead of the 2020/2021 campaign. The player has represented Tottenham Hotspur, Bristol City and latest club Charlton Athletic in the elite game. Last season saw Wynne make 19 appearances for The Addicks in the Barclays Women’s Championship, successfully proving her fitness off the back of virtually a whole season on the sidelines.

After signing on with Southampton, Wynne said “I came down a few weeks ago and went for a walk with Marieanne (Spacey-Cale) around the whole of the training ground. Just seeing the facilities and the ambitions of the club and where they’ve grown from, and after having a few conversations, I knew it was the place for me.”

Wynne becomes Southampton’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window following the recent additions of Paige Peake, Beth Lumsden and Sophie Harris.
