Former Manchester United full-back Smith joins West Ham United

Former Manchester United full-back Kirsty Smith has completed the move to West Ham United according to reports on The Hammers’ official club website.

The 28-year-old Scotland international defender moves to The Chigwell Construction Stadium on a free transfer after leaving her former club upon the expiry of her contract.

Smith spent four successful years at Manchester United in which she made 40 league appearances for the club. The defender was a member of a Manchester United side which won promotion to the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2018/2019. Smith largely found herself named amongst the substitutes last season and she will be keen to kick on with new club West Ham United this term.

After signing on with The Hammers, Smith said “I’m really pleased to join West Ham United. “I’ve had a really nice welcome from all of the players and staff and I’m excited for what’s to come at this Club. This is a fresh start for me and I’m really looking forward to working within a new environment and being part of this team.”

Smith becomes West Ham United’s fourth summer signing following the recent additions of Jess Ziu, Halle Houssein and Lisa Evans. Paul Konchesky’s squad is now beginning to look in real good shape ahead of the new season.
