Goalkeeper Thomas parts company with Coventry United

Coventry United have announced the news that goalkeeper Lucy Thomas is leaving the Butts Park Arena.

The 22-year-old arrived at the Midlands club following the expiration of her contract with London City Lionesses last summer and 12 months on, she is again set for a new club.

The youthful stopper made 13 appearances in the Barclays Women’s Championship for Coventry United last season and she played an integral part in the club maintaining their status in the elite game for another season at least.

Coventry United were deducted 10 points midway through last season as a result of their former owners’ intentions to liquidate the club. The Red and Greens were saved but found themselves in danger of being relegated to the FA Women’s National League. Yet, in one of the most remarkable Barclays Women’s Championship final days in recent memory, Coventry United were somehow able to stave off relegation thanks to a last-minute pile-driver of a free-kick from Mollie Green. Goalkeeper Thomas kept a clean sheet in that crunch game away at Watford and gave Green the platform to score the only goal.

Despite her young age, Thomas already has a wealth of experience in the second tier after representing Oxford United and London City Lionesses and one would imagine that it won’t be too long before she is snapped by another club in the league or perhaps even in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
