Arsenal’s teenage forward Hennessy announces departure

Arsenal’s teenage forward Alex Hennessy has announced the news that she is leaving the club this summer.

The player took to her personal Instagram account to confirm her departure earlier today.

In an emotional statement, Hennessy said “I have made the decision to leave Arsenal this summer. This club kick-started my career in a way I could of never imagined. From a young player to 17, I’m leaving the club as a better player and person. Thanks to the staff and players for everything they have helped me with along they way. A new challenge awaits…”

Hennessy joined the Arsenal academy system as a 12-year-old after playing football in Essex. After featuring for The Gunners at senior level in pre-season a little under 12 months’ ago, the player made an appearance as Arsenal won 4-0 at Reading in the Barclays Women’s Super League back in September. Hennessy joined second tier side Crystal Palace on a dual-registration basis in February this year and she made nine appearances for The Eagles in which she scored one goal.

The forward is expected to remain in the Barclays Women’s Super League in 2022/2023. Hennessy is thought to have interest from top flight clubs including Arsenal’s London rivals West Ham United.
