Chelsea complete the signing of highly-rated young forward Watson

Chelsea have completed the signing of highly-rated young forward Lucy Watson on a two-year deal.

FAWSL Full-Time were informed of the news via an official club press release from Chelsea this afternoon.

The 18-year-old joins Chelsea on a free transfer after leaving second tier club Sheffield United at the end of last season. Watson netted eight goals in 22 Barclays Women’s Championship games for The Blades in 2021/2022. The player already has 33 appearances to her name in the Barclays Women’s Championship in total and she will now have her eyes set upon challenging herself in the top flight.

On the international stage, Watson has represented England up to and including Under-19 level. She was a member of The Young Lionesses side which participated at the UEFA Women’s Under-19 Championship in the Czech Republic earlier this summer.

After completing her move to Kingsmeadow, Watson said “I am so proud to have signed for a huge club like Chelsea. I am very excited to continue my development and see what the future holds for me.

“Thank you to Emma Hayes and the team for giving me this opportunity.”

Watson is Chelsea’s fourth signing of the summer transfer window following the recent additions of Ève Périsset, Kadeisha Buchanan and Kateřina Svitková.
