Defender Howard pens new Leicester City contract

Scotland international defender Sophie Howard has signed a new contract with Leicester City according to reports on The Foxes’ official club website.

The 28-year-old experienced centre-back is understood to have signed on at The King Power Stadium for two more years.

Howard joined Leicester City in summer 2020 after leaving former club Reading. She helped The Foxes to win the 2020/2021 Barclays Women’s Championship title and with it promotion to the top flight. The defender made 21 Barclays Women’s Super League appearances for Lydia Bedford’s side last season in which she scored one goal. The player is a key piece of the Leicester City jigsaw and fans will be delighted to see Howard stay for the long term.

After signing on again with The Foxes, Howard said “I am extremely happy to have extended my contract. This Club has huge potential and we’ve shown that in the last couple of years. We have come a long way on and off the pitch.

“We achieved our first target last season of retaining our WSL status. Now it’s about starting the season stronger and finishing higher in the league table. I feel like I have a lot to give and hopefully I can do that every day to help the team.”

Howard follows teammate Shannon O’Brien in signing a new contract with Leicester City in the last 24 hours.
