Former Birmingham City forward Emily Whelan has completed a move to Park’s Motor Group Scottish Women’s Premier League 1 club Glasgow City according to reports on their official website.
The 19-year-old Republic of Ireland international spent just one season with Birmingham City after joining the club from FAI Women’s National League side Sherbourne last summer. She left St Andrew’s earlier this summer upon the expiry of her contract.
Whelan made 19 appearances for Birmingham City in last season’s Barclays Women’s Super League, failing to open her league goalscoring tally for the club. The player was unable to help the Blues to avoid relegation to the Barclays Women’s Championship after spending more than a decade in the top flight.
After joining new club Glasgow City, Whelan said “I am delighted to have signed with Glasgow City FC. I’m excited to play alongside amazing players and work with incredible staff. I am really looking forward to this new adventure and I can’t wait to get started.”
Whelan is one of several departures at Birmingham City this summer. In reality, given the quality of player arriving at the Midlands club in the current transfer window, she may not have been guaranteed game time had she stayed a Blue.
