Liverpool have kicked-off their pre-season programme with a 6-0 victory over Nottingham Forest this afternoon.
In a game played across three thirds, the Barclays Women’s Super League side simply had too much quality for their FA Women’s National League Northern Premier Division counterparts.
Liverpool established a one-goal lead in the first third at The Campus. Returning Dutch forward Shanice van de Sanden marked her first Liverpool appearance in five years with an assist as she played in Leanne Kiernan to score.
Katie Stengel netted Liverpool’s second after being presented with an opportunity to race through on goal before Rhiannon Roberts scored number three, getting on the end of a Missy Bo Kearns free-kick.
Liverpool weren’t finished there. A fourth goal soon arrived when Emma Koivisto crossed for Yana Daniels to score before Kearns provided another assist with Rachel Furness getting her head on a corner kick delivery.
Furness rounded off the scoring with another headed goal late in the match as Matt Beard’s side made a winning start to pre-season.
Liverpool will make their Barclays Women’s Super League return in September following a two-season absence. The Reds are scheduled to begin the campaign against Reading at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on 11 September.
