Sunderland and Birmingham City will be hoping to record their first wins of the season when the pair contest a Barclays Women’s Championship fixture at The Stadium of Light on Saturday.
Both sides battled to draws in their opening matches last weekend. Sunderland recorded an excellent 1-1 draw at Durham while Birmingham City were held to a stalemate by Lewes, a side who are managed by their former boss Scott Booth.
There is every chance that this weekend’s fixture will break the Barclays Women’s Championship’s attendance record of 5,752. Sunderland’s men’s side face Norwich City at The Stadium of Light at 12.30pm and fans can remain in the ground to watch the women’s game afterwards, meaning that a huge crowd could be present.
Sunderland head coach Melanie Reay could opt to keep faith with the side which battled so bravely against Durham at Maiden Castle last weekend. Should Reay wish to tweak her line-up, The Lady Black Cats boss has more squad depth than she had available to her last season.
Birmingham City boss Darren Carter could look to make some changes to his side following that frustrating goalless draw with Lewes. Jade Pennock could be pushing for a start after providing a threat from the bench last weekend while the likes of Mollie Green and Lucy Quinn may also be considered.
The Barclays Women’s Championship fixture between Sunderland and Birmingham City kicks-off at 4pm on Saturday afternoon. Tickets for the double header and for the women’s game only are on-sale and can be purchased by clicking here.
