PREVIEW: Crystal Palace v Coventry United

Crystal Palace will hope to move to the top of the Barclays Women’s Championship table, at least for a few hours, by beating Coventry United at Hayes Lane this evening.

The Eagles won their opening match of the season 1-0 at London City Lionesses last weekend. Dean Davenport’s side now have a great opportunity to make it two wins from two against a new-look Coventry United side who are still evolving under recently-appointed head coach Lee Burch.

Crystal Palace boss Davenport could again be without forward Rianna Dean for this evening’s match. The former Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool striker was a notable absentee on opening day and her condition is not currently known. Davenport could opt to keep faith with the side which recorded that excellent opening day win against their promotion rivals from across the city.

Coventry United performed well in a 1-0 defeat to Bristol City last weekend despite having little time to gel. Head coach Burch will hope to see his side prove the doubters wrong again in their second match. Burch could provide a debut to midfielder Olivia Rabjohn at Hayes Lane while the Coventry United boss is expecting his squad numbers to increase in the coming weeks as Jodie Bartle, Anna Wilcox and Rosetta Taylor get up to full fitness. It is unknown whether any of the trio will be available this evening.
