Everton midfielder Izzy Christiansen says that teammate Katja Snoeijs has the quality to make a real impact in the Barclays Women’s Super League this season.
The Dutch international joined The Blue Girls in the current transfer window off the back of netting double figures in each of the last six seasons in spells with AZ Alkmaar, PSV and Bordeaux. Snoeijs has also averaged more than a goal every other game for The Netherlands at senior level.
When speaking to FAWSL Full-Time in an Everton media session, midfielder Christiansen said that she has been impressed with what she has seen so far from Snoeijs and that the player has what it takes to be a big hit in England.
“Quality, she’s absolute quality,” Christiansen said. “There’s a Dutch pedigree in the women’s game that they produce very good players….to name a few in the WSL and I am pretty sure from what I have seen so far that Katja will become one of those names.
“I think she is brilliant, she has been a really good addition to the squad and I am excited to see what she can do this season in an Everton shirt.”
Christiansen hopes to see Snoeijs become a favourite both at Everton and in the Barclays Women’s Super League but she believes that the Dutch forward’s success will be dependent upon the performances of her teammates.
She said “I would love to see her become one of those iconic players in the league and for us at Everton.
“Katja is a very humble player and she works hard. I’ve done some running sessions with her and she has got a really good attitude. I’m not going to put any pressure on her but if the players around her are functioning, creating chances for her and linking up with her, she’s got a better chance of being successful. Fundamentally, we know that if we’ve got players around each other who are performing to high level, we’ll give each other a chance to stand out.
“There’s a really high expectation in the squad at the moment of putting in 110% and that somebody else could come in and do the same. That’s the mentality and the culture that we’ve got and that’s really healthy.”
Everton kick-off the new season against Leicester City at Walton Hall Park on Sunday 11 September. Tickets are priced at £8 for adults £4 for juniors and seniors. To purchase tickets, please visit https://www.evertonfc.
